People in Action

CCCAction is working with grassroots groups across the country to empower low-income people to fight for the policies, legislation and leaders that will improve their lives. Here are just a few of the featured partners we’re working with.

Make The RoadFeatured Partner: Make the Road New York

In their groundbreaking campaign to organize 5000 “carwasheros” – workers in New York City’s car wash industry – Make the Road New York and partner New York Communities for Change have scored a series of victories, with workers at six car washes signing union contracts and seventh contract under negotiation. Along with providing better pay, set work schedules and sick days, the contracts protect workers from wage theft, intimidation and other abuses. We are working with Make the Road to extend the impact of this campaign to more workers, and to share best practices with other organizations across the country that are fighting to improve the quality of jobs in their communities.

DC Water is required by federal mandate to spend $2.7 billion upgrading DC’s inadequate stormwater infrastructure to decrease sewer system overflows, conserve water and maintain water quality. This project will be financed by DC residents through fees on their water utility bills. CCCAction is working with WIN members to organize a citywide coalition of DC residents, job seekers and environmental groups to demand that this massive investment of public money deliver multiple benefits for the city, including jobs that pay good wages with benefits, clean water and green spaces.

CCCAction has partnered with ten organizations to improve job access for formerly incarcerated people. We will continue to build this learning community, provide resources to develop the capacity of each member organization and work collectively to find the most effective strategies to break the pipeline between incarceration and permanent poverty.
