The short explanation of this alert was:
As Congress begins to work on the budget resolution, it is critical that your Senators and Representatives hear from you. If they don’t know that their constituents are opposed to a budget resolution that includes cuts and caps to programs that provide vital services and support for millions of people every day, they will likely pass a budget resolution that does not reflect the true priorities of this nation.
Members of Congress have the power to reflect the real values of Americans. When they draft and debate their own budget resolution in the coming weeks, they can choose to model their budget on the President’s budget recommendations or they can choose to craft a budget that supports programs that American families rely on.
Tell your elected officials that you do not support a budget that harms low-income and other working families. Make sure they understand that they must weigh in now against a budget that would cut programs like Medicaid, food stamps, child care, education, veterans’ medical care, community development, and law enforcement programs. Tell them that you will not forget if they vote to cut or cap programs such as these in a budget that includes more than $1 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthy. Remind them that they must oppose all attempts to use dirty budgeting tricks, like reconciliation or budget process changes, to force quick action on cuts to federal entitlement programs (like Medicaid or welfare).
Use CCC’s email service to send a customized letter directly to your Representatives reminding them that America’s families need Congress to invest in their financial security and well-being, not more tax cuts.
Note: Please customize the letter below to fit your style and communicate your specific concerns with the President’s budget.
