Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available.The short explanation of this alert was: Representative Bill Thomas (R-CA), the Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, has made statements that suggest he will make deeper cuts in the Ways & Means portion of the House reconciliation bill than were called for under the budget resolution conference report. On April 29, Bill Thomas said "the numbers in the budget are minimums, not maximums" at a press conference. Then, he was quoted in the May 5 edition of Tax Notes saying "the point most people need to focus on is the spending numbers in the budget resolution are floors." Both statements reveal Chairman Thomas' intentions in the starkest terms. He wants to make draconian cuts to critical programs, along the lines of the House's original ultra-harsh budget proposal, and then turn around and cut taxes for the rich. We are witnessing a blatant transfer of resources from working Americans to those who have so much already. It's time to take a stand. When so much is being lost by the poorest among us, cutting taxes for the wealthiest Americans is unacceptable. Sign this petition so that Chairman Thomas knows that you oppose his plans to make even deeper cuts to programs for the neediest among us, to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest few.
